Shorter days and cooler temperatures have arrived in North Carolina—along with the holiday season.  This is the perfect time of year to find unique things to do in Lenoir, and thanks to Fercott Fermentables, a new establishment at 107 Main Street NW, plenty of folks are wetting their whistle, satisfying their appetites and spending some much-needed down-time with close friends and family. 

Visit their Facebook page and it’s obvious this is one fun place to hang out and try some new beverages.  Beer, wine, mead, cider, bottles, taproom, homebrew, and wine-making supplies, fermentation demos and classes—are all beneath Fercott’s roof. Oh yeah along with specialty gifts…if you’re searching for that cool holiday gift for those who live nearby in their North Carolina mountain homes.

• Monday, December 3; 6 pm-8pm–German Comfort Food Bake-Off with Red Oak Brewing

“It’s turning cold, so it’s finally time for some comfort food! The people’s choice winner will get a $30 Pour-It-Forward on the board, so bring us your best bratwurst, sauerkraut, rotkol, spaetzle, German potato salad, Black Forest Cake, or whatever German recipe is in your collection! We’ll be offering pairing flights of 4 of Red Oak’s German style lagers. Can’t cook? Then just come vote!  Please have food dishes at the shop by 6 pm. Bring enough for a crowd!”

• Wednesday, December 5; 3 pm-8 pm; Winesday! “Glühwein”

“Glühwein is a European tradition at the outdoor Christmas markets! Nothing warms the body & soul quite like hot spiced wine. Enjoy a flight of four different glühweins, our housemade version side by side 3 bottled versions. Any leftover bottles of glühwein will be 15% off that day, all other wine in the shop is 10% off. We’ll have cheeseboards made to order and a specialty warm pretzel recipe just for the occasion!”

• Wednesday, December 12; 6 pm; Winesday! “Orin Swift Wines”

“Join the folks from Associated Brands as they show us through a flight of Orin Swift wines. Orin Swift has a cult-like following, thanks to their meticulous Napa Valley grape sourcing paired with distinctive label art. This flight will have a limited time slot, so be sure to mark your calendars!”

• Sunday, December 16; 3 pm-5 pm; CPR & Basic Life Support Class

“Fercott’s will be hosting a CPR & Basic Life Support Class for those needing certification, or those who want to learn to save a life. Cost is $60 per person and includes a beverage following the class. Class size is limited to 15 people.”

• Saturday, December 22; 5 pm-10 pm; 2nd Annual Fercott Festivus

“You asked for it again, and we are continuing the tradition! Festivus Feast featuring the popular Crock-a-thon! Bring a potluck dish to share, but the catch is it HAS to be in a crockpot! Last year we had 14, will we break that record?

Feats of Strength competition, with a prize to the winners! Details to be announced on this. And something new this year: a Christmas Onesie challenge! Anyone brave enough to don a onesie will be entered in a raffle for an EXTREME Fercott Prize pack!”
