The history of Blowing Rock NC is an interesting one, as it the town gets its name from a rare rock formation that sticks out over 1,500 ft. above the Johns River gorge. The rock’s shape and size allow wind currents from the gorge to blow vertically, which causes lightweight objects to float upwards into the sky.
