Equestrian Life

Horse shoes hanging inside on The Coves Equestrian Center

Four legs. Big hearts. To look into a horse’s eye is to see the American spirit. A gentle giant willing to obey and longing to be loved. Whether you’re an avid rider, a novice, or you rode horses as a child and would like to experience barn life again, The Coves’ two self-care equestrian centers are designed to accommodate horses and riders of all levels and are here to enhance your Coves Outdoor Lifestyle.

The Coves offers two on-site self-care equestrian centers, designed to accommodate horses and riders of all levels.

  • River Barn: Situated along the scenic Johns River, this beautiful red barn features high vaulted ceilings, padded flooring, a tack room, 8 stalls, run-ins, a round pen, and 8 acres of lush pasture. It’s a wonderful gathering spot for riders to mingle.
  • Husband’s Creek Barn: On the banks of Husbands Creek, the second, equally impressive, equestrian center provides another 9 acres of pasture, 8 stalls, barn overhangs, and run-ins ensuring plenty of space to care for the equine family
  • Shared Trails: The property boasts miles of nature trails that are for hiking, biking, riding or riding horse trails, or tooling around in your UTV.  The winding trail system guides you through open meadows, beneath the shaded canopy of mature hardwood forests, alongside serene creeks, waterfalls and the Johns River.
  • Community Socials: Gather with neighbors at the barn for trail rides, Beers at The Barn socials, or the annual Wreath Lighting & Carriage Rides event in December.
  • Lodge & Amenities: When you are done exploring, retreat to Pisgah Mountain Lodge for a relaxing dip in the saline pool or take in the panoramic Blue Ridge Mountain sunset views from the wrap-around porch.  You might even see the mysterious Brown Mountain Lights!

In the southeast corner of The Coves a thriving equestrian landscape is transforming the terrain. This area features expansive pasture lots where horse owners are planning and building private stables, with a new barn seemingly going up every day to accommodate the growing demand.  Bordered by meandering spring-fed streams and pristine riding trails, these mini-farms seamlessly blend pastoral charm with the majesty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Properties range from +/-4 - 30 acres and residents are actively carving out their own private slice of equestrian paradise. As more horse enthusiasts invest in these premium land parcels, the southeast side of the community has become a rapidly expanding hub of ranch-style living, complete with state-of-the-art outbuildings, fencing, and equestrian-friendly infrastructure.

With mild four-season weather, The Coves Mountain River Club, is an ideal year-round home for you and your four-legged friend.
