CCC&TI Spring Performing Artist Concert Series

jazz concerts WNC

We look forward with great anticipation each year to the Performing Artist Concert Series presented by the Associate in Fine Arts – Music program at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI).  It’s further testament to the fact that those of us who own Lenoir NC real estate have no shortage of great cultural offerings to attend and enjoy.

Most recently, CCC&TI was the site of a well-received performance by renowned guitarist Derek Gripper, whose harmonic language is derived from the sounds of Mali, Senegal, The Gambia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, along with Bach and contemporary classical music.

Admission for the Series is free, and the events are open to all students and the general public.

On Wednesday, April 17th, at one p.m., the CCC&TI Recital Hall on the campus in Hudson will host the wildly popular Firecracker Jazz Band.  It’s the perfect way to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month.  The six members of the group bring great energy to the stage, as they offer their unique salute to pioneers of the genre such as Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton and Bix Beiderbecke.

The Firecracker Jazz Band has performed hundreds of times at venues small and large, from street corners to the Kennedy Center.  Based in Asheville, they’re regulars at regional jazz gatherings and have been part of the lineup at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

Tuesday, April 30th, starting at 12:15 p.m. in the Recital Hall, we’ll be treated to the Spring Concert by our CCC&TI Chorus.  Anyone who’s unable to be there can see an encore performance on Thursday, May 2nd, at St. James Episcopal Church in downtown Lenoir, also at 12:15 p.m.

If you’d like more information regarding this Spring’s Performing Arts Concert Series or CCC&TI’s Associate in Fine Arts – Music degree, you can reach Program Director Justin Butler at 828-726-2457 or follow CCC&TI on Facebook.

Those of us who have settled at The Coves Mountain River Club love the easy access to continuing education and the vibrant campus environment we have available to us at CCC&TI.  Our wonderful piece of Lenoir NC real estate here in the foothills may be light years removed from big city congestion, but we’re still surrounded by countless opportunities to indulge our passions, hone our skills, develop our hobbies and just live life to the fullest.

So many of us have found that going back to school gives us renewed energy.  Part of it stems from being around young people.  There’s also the fact that we’re now studying something because we want to, as opposed to being required to do so.  And learning keeps the mind active.
