Many who have moved to The Coves Mountain River Club are delighted to learn that one time-honored small town tradition is still alive and well in Lenoir:  semi-pro baseball.  The Oilers have been going strong for more than fifty years, and they were the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League champions in 2016.

The team’s home games are played at historic Walker Stadium downtown, and for local families they rank high on the list of things to do in Lenoir NC.  Their season runs from May through July, with the opening day events kicking off last month. Area fans will have thirty chances to see them play in Lenoir, and each one becomes an another opportunity to socialize with neighbors who share your love of baseball.

The Oilers are active in the community, and there are ways you can get involved with their efforts as a volunteer if you so choose.  They hold a baseball skills camp in June for ages eight through high school.  Their web site at lenoiroilers.com has a lot of information about the team.
